Previously Reported - Scroll down for Updates: The protestors fighting for tougher gun control laws in Tennessee appeared at the state capitol in Nashville a day and a half after 9-1-1 dispatch recordings were released from the Monday shootings that left three students and three adults dead at the private Christian school in Nashville... That was CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann.
Protesters at the State Capital, that sits about 6-miles away from Covenant School, chanted outside of the building before making their way inside... Parents, teachers, students and citizens at the protest said they're demanding change and protection - in the wake of the deadly shooting.
UPDATED: Chants from pro-gun-control protesters grew louder on Thursday...Representative Robert Stevens from Smyrna said that people have got to cool down… Crowds stormed their way into the Tennessee Capitol. Once inside, three democrat lawmakers joined in on the chants of "No justice, No peace" and "Save our Children." Representatives Justin Jones, Gloria Johnson and Justin Pearson all took part in the protest by chanting with the crowd on Thursday, as described by State Rep. Tim Rudd of Murfreesboro... The well is the area behind the main podium where the speaker of the House is located. As the chants continued... Rep. Stevens said this was a first for him... Organizers of the protest are calling on state leaders to enact tougher gun reform laws and say thoughts and prayers are not enough. Rep. Rudd further commented...
Some of those in attendance are accused of spitting on lawmakers… He suggested that respect is needed…
Meanwhile, Tennessee Firearms Association Executive Director John Harris wrote in an email that some state legislators may be considering a "Red Flag" law. Harris then described what a “Red Flag” law means, writing, “They are designed to take firearms away from individuals if a report is made by or to government officials (think perhaps weaponized claims in divorces) that a specific person possess a risk to himself/herself if allowed to possess or purchase a firearm.”
