Former La Vergne two-sport athlete and local resident Joshua Bugg has been named the next head coach at Riverdale for the girls basketball program.
Principal Tamera Blair made the announcement Tuesday saying "We are excited to bring Joshua Bugg on board at Riverdale High School. We like his energy and vision he has for our program. In addition to his coaching experience he is an accomplished educator."
Bugg was an assistant last season with former Blackman girls coach Chad Hibdon at Tullahoma. He's had other stints as an assistant at Hillsboro and Independence and was the head coach at Columbia from 2017 until 2021. He played both baseball and basketball at La Vergne years back and calls Murfreesboro home.
Bugg takes over for Keri O'neal who resigned after the season. The Lady Warriors finished the season at 3-21 and were 10-39 in the last two seasons under O'neal.
Riverdale has won seven state championships since 2007, their last coming in 2018. They were also won national champions in 2012, 2017 and were runner up in 2018.
