Murfreesboro, TN - Rutherford County Library System will be celebrating the launch of its first Seed Library, located at the Technology Engagement Center. The Rutherford County Master Gardeners have organized several basic gardening classes that will assist those using the Seed Library, though all are welcome. Information about classes will be available on the library website and social media.
In late February, community members will be able to take home seasonal seed packets. The seeds were donated by the Tractor Supply Company store #191 and the collection is finite as well as seasonal. This project was developed by TEC Branch Manager Kathleen Tyree, with input from the Murfreesboro Community Garden, to promote gardening and access to healthy foods. When asked for more details, Tyree said:
“The Seed Library at the TEC is a collection of seeds - flower, vegetable, and herb - donated by generous local sources, that you can take to plant and grow at home. Since this is new for us all, seed saving is not yet a part of the program. The hope is that patrons will grow to enjoy gardening as a fun and healthy practice. Seed saving can come later!”
Donated seeds that are in their original packaging and no more than 2 years old are appreciated.

The Historic Research Center is located in the Rutherford County Archives at 435 Rice Street in Murfreesboro.
