Newly Elected Rutherford County Mayor say's he will not seek to be the Chairman of the County Commission

(RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN) WGNS recently interviewed incoming Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr and asked if he planned to be the chair of the county commission or if a chairman would be selected by the county commissioners. Carr stated… He further commented that by removing himself as the county commission chairman… By not being the chair of the commission, Carr would not have a vote in the issues being discussed by the county commission… The Rutherford County Mayor would still be at all of the commission meetings, but would not be in charge of - or reside over the actual meetings.

If the county mayor is not the chairman of the commission to preside over the meetings, then the 21-commisioners will have to elect the chairman. The seat will then be named by the majority of the vote by the full commission. The chairman would then have multiple duties like assigning other commissioners to serve on various committees.

Hear the full question and statement by Joe Carr, who is being sworn into office at 6PM on Thursday, September 1, 2022… You can learn more about the Rutherford County Commission and their duties HERE.
