(La Vergne, Tenn.) As summer approaches and the school year draws to a close, the La Vergne Police Department wants the community to know it is committed to keeping the city safe and ensuring everyone has an enjoyable summer.

LPD is implementing a “Safe Summer” campaign to increase enforcement efforts for the next few months. The campaign will consist of extra officers patrolling parts of town that have been identified as high-risk crime areas. Officers will also increase patrols at local city parks where families and teens tend to congregate during summer break. The campaign will begin May 27, coinciding with the last day of school.

Officers will also continue to enforce all state, federal and city ordinances, including a new “coolness” law. The unofficial ordinance mandates everyone must “remain cool” during the hot summer months, and the fine for not staying cool will be enjoying a cool popsicle issued by an officer in the “Copsicle” truck, along with a fist bump.
