(Click above picture to see more photos) Rutherford County Fire and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the Highway Patrol all responded to an accident on Friday (3/4/22) involving a vehicle verses a train. The wreck was in the 600 block of Rucker Road.

The intersection of Rucker Road and the railroad tracks where the crash occurred in Christiana, is one of the few railroad crossings in Rutherford County that does not have crossing arms or gates to warn motorists of an oncoming train.

Fire and Rescue reported the roadway had to be temporarily shut down after the small SUV collided the train.

The vehicle was driven by a sole occupant who was evaluated by emergency personnel and found to be uninjured. All airbags in the small Toyota deployed upon impact and again, the driver was not injured.

The train, which was hauling Ethanol, was not damaged.

Rutherford County is listed as being in the top 24 tier of counties with the highest rate of railroad crossing accidents. Shelby County is in the number one position, followed by Davidsion County, Knox County, Hamilton County and then at number five, Rutherford County.
