Smyrna, Tennessee —Smyrna Town Court Clerk Brittany Stevens has announced her candidacy for Smyrna Municipal Judge in the August 4, 2022 election.
“As Smyrna’s judge, I will be firm but fair with individuals appearing in criminal court,” Stevens said. “I have a constitutionally conservative judicial philosophy and will be both impartial and professional while litigants present their cases.”
Stevens has served as Smyrna’s court clerk since 2016. Since first entering her role as clerk, she has successfully improved efficiency in the court system by modernizing and automating procedures, implementing online payments, starting a public online record search portal, utilizing technology to reduce both paper consumption and manpower, and partnering with a collection agency to pursue delinquent accounts. Under Stevens’ leadership, the Smyrna Court Clerk’s office was among the first in the state to partner with the TBI for an electronic data exchange for expungements. Stevens has also prioritized upgrading the court’s website, allowing individuals and attorneys to conduct more business online.
“Practicing law and serving as clerk have provided me with a unique understanding of how Smyrna’s court system operates,” Stevens said. “I will act professionally and leverage my strong relationships with community leaders to help keep our community safe.”
Stevens is a longtime Smyrna resident. She is a graduate of Lipscomb University and Nashville School of Law. Upon passing the bar exam, Stevens practiced law with her brother at their family’s law office until she accepted appointment to serve as Smyrna’s court clerk in February 2016.
