Rutherford County is Prepared for Disaster

There has been a lot of news coverage on this past weekends storms that wreaked havoc on both Tennessee and the more devastated areas of Kentucky. That said, some listeners want to know if local utility companies are prepared for the worst case scenario type disasters.

WGNS also talked to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford CEO and President Gordon Ferguson about the use of the local hospital, should a mass casualty disaster occur in our community...



As for law enforcement, a multitude of training exercises are conducted on a regular basis.

The last time a mass casualty type event occurred in Rutherford County was 12-years ago on Good Friday. In 2009, tornadoes caused about $42-million in damage to area homes and businesses. Reports indicate an EF-4 tornado completely wiped out 117 homes and extensively damaged 298 houses throughout Rutherford County.
