UPDATE: A Wednesday morning accident on Interstate 840 in Rutherford County resulted in the roadway being closed for several hours.

The wreck happened around 7:15 in the morning and apparently involved only one vehicle near the Jefferson Pike interchange.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Charlie Caplinger told WGNS NEWS that 34-Year old Billy Dishman of Murfreesboro was traveling towards Lebanon when he ran off of I-840 just before the Jefferson Pike interchange. His Honda Civic then struck a tree and flipped. Troopers reported that Dishman was trapped inside the small car and had to be extracted by fire and rescue teams.

After being freed from the vehicle, he was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville with critical injuries.

WGNS confirmed through the THP that Dishman was not wearing a seat belt.

A second accident took place about 15-minutes after the first wreck occurred, however, it did not involve serious injuries.
