(ROCKVALE) Eagle Scout applicant needs funds to build training obstacles for K-9s. Rockvale High School freshman Taylor Bell and three friends are striving to earn their Eagle Scout rank from the Boy Scouts.
Taylor said, “All four of us are working on our Eagle project. It’s been a great experience so far.”
Taylor wants to become an FBI agent so she wanted to do her Eagle project related to law enforcement.
She is working with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Unit and Community Services Sgt. Chris Erwin to build two training obstacles to train the dogs for real-life circumstances.
The prospective Eagle noted, “I am building a cat walk and an A frame. The cat walk helps the K-9s learn how to walk up ladders. It improves the relationship between the dog and the handler. The A frame helps with agility and to get over obstacles. These are used to train the dogs for real-life circumstances.”
K-9 Deputy Sarah Blair said, "Taylor has to plan, organize, fund-raise and build the equipment. The Rockvale student researched her project by visiting a K-9 department in Chattanooga whose officers helped with planning."
Taylor noted, “That was really awesome in watching the dogs train.”
Her uncle, David Humphreys, is helping Taylor plan and design the obstacles. She is raising funds to pay for the project on her Facebook page.

Taylor must complete the project by Sept. 20, 2020
