The long awaited return of high school football was worth the wait and anticipation as La Vergne outlasted Rockvale Thursday night 49-35.
Wolverines senior running back Ray Banner had a banner night, rushing for 231 of La Vergne's 238-yards. He had five touchdowns on the night, including this 57-yard run in the second quarter:
La Vergne quarterback Levondrea Webb was 10-of-16 passing for 161 yards with a passing touchdown and he returned a scooped up a loose ball on a blocked field goal to score in the third quarter.
The game was back and forth most of the night, with Rockvale taking a 21-20 halftime lead on this touchdown pass from junior quarterback Logan Nowacki to receiver C.J. Steele:
Nowacki finished the night 13-of-25 passing for 153-yards and two interceptions. Running back Landon Starnes finished with 162-yards on 19-carries and two touchdowns.
La Vergne will host new Wilson County school Green Hill next Friday night while Rockvale travels to Franklin County.
