(MURFREESBORO) The Main Street Murfreesboro board met and decided to cancel all Friday night live concerts as well as Jazz Fest for 2020. This was all due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and the need for social distancing.
Board President Randy Caldwell said, "Our organization is responding to the ongoing concerns relative to COVID and the related directives and recommendations that have been issued at federal, state, and local governmental levels. We appreciate the support that we have received from the community during these difficult times and your understanding in having to make difficult decisions like this."
JazzFest Cancelled
The JazzFest Committee worked hard this year planning not one but two JazzFest events that were to be in May and October.
After cancelling the May, student focused, JazzFest, Main Street has now officially cancelling the October 3, 2020 JazzFest event.
Main Street Executive Director Sarah Callender noted, "What was to be a one day festival, highlighting local and nationally acclaimed jazz bands, along with kid friendly activities, the Main Street Board voted to cancel this event due to the health risks of large group gatherings with COVID. The unknown aspects of securing bands along with the financial risks that Main Street would be under for planning such a large event are not wise during this time. With social distancing hard to manage for a large scale musical event, Main Street's JazzFest committee will focus our thoughts and plans towards 2021."
