La VERGNE, TN (WGNS) - After a long morning of detours, flashing lights, and a whole lot of patience from La Vergne drivers, Old Nashville Highway was reopened to traffic around 10:30AM Friday morning (8/28/2026).
Around 4:00AM, a passing motorist spotted flames at Driggers Auto Services, located at 519 Old Nashville Highway, and called 911. La Vergne Fire Rescue and Police arrived within two minutes to find the commercial building fully engulfed. The intensity of the blaze, combined with the number of tires on the property and the tight spacing between vehicles, forced crews into immediate defensive operations. No firefighters entered the structure; instead, they focused on containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading.
Several vehicles behind the building were already burning when crews arrived. Firefighters worked quickly to knock down those flames while keeping the main fire from jumping to nearby property. By shortly after 4:30AM, the fire was under control, though crews remained on-the-scene for hours to fully extinguish hot spots and begin the investigation.
During the response, Old Nashville Highway was shut down between Chaney Boulevard and Murray Lane. Police officers handled traffic control, redirecting drivers and urging commuters to avoid the area. Anyone familiar with that stretch knows how heavily it’s used—especially during the morning rush—and the closure created a noticeable ripple through the usual flow.
